Things To Do

Madeline Island is the largest of the Apostle Islands and the only one not included in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. It’s a playground for the outdoor enthusiast or those who love the charms of a small town! Here are some ideas of what to do when you get there.

Things to Do:

  • Art Galleries - Within walking distance of the Madeline Island Ferry, browse the collections of original art made by Madeline Island artists at either Woods Hall or Bell Street Art Gallery.  Step back in time and learn about the island’s roots at the Madeline Island Museum.
  • Rent a Bike - The island’s flat terrain makes it the perfect place to explore by bicycle. Bring your own or rent one once you get to the island.
  • Hiking and Camping - Madeline Island has two parks: Big Bay State Park and Big Bay Town Park. Both offer hiking trails, a sandy beach, and campsites. More information here.
  • Restaurants/ Bars - Grab a bite to eat in downtown La Pointe or drinks at Madeline Island’s iconic watering holes.
